My name is Mark, and I am a Homeowner.
GreenerHomeowner is a website started with a dream and a purpose. My ultimate goal in this undertaking is to create a website that anyone can come to for extensive information about living a more 'GREEN lifestyle'.
Our society has come to rely on crude oil in so many ways, that it touches our lives where we do not realize. Not just for fuel for transportation or fuel to run power plants, but for plastics like the bags that we bring groceries home, the trash bags that we throw away, to the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 cabinets and controllers that you and/or the kids play. There are literally thousands of products:
Band-Aids, Diapers, eyeglasses, lotions, milk/food containers, auto parts, perfume, contact lenses, computer parts, toothbrushes, medical implants like heart valves and joint replacements, pens, clothing, shampoo, fertilizer, balloons, and much much more.
Each barrel of crude goes into making each of these products but over 50% ends up as gasoline and diesel. I have watched gasoline go from 31¢ per gallon in the early 70's to more than $3.50 per gallon as of April 20, 2008. I see a country in trouble. I remember the first gas crunch in 1973 when I was young. I see those times ahead, but this time, much, much worse.
Why did we not take action 35 years ago to avert this same scenario? I do not have the definitive answer, but I believe it has to do with big business and automakers.
This is not a rant about crude oil. It is about a way of life, a mentality that we as Americans have come to live by. A way of life that is in serious jeopardy if we do not change immediately.
Don't take my word for it. Just look at your TV. This is the first time in history that I have seen advertisements by goverment officials pleading for immediate change. To me this is an alarm sounding. Not just a suble announcement that we need to embrace other sources of energy, but an 'all hands' brace for impact emergency!
Therefore, as an American, a responsible denizen of this planet, and as a homeowner, I am taking my own stand to do what I must to help prepare, educate and share information with everyone, not just the homeowner.
This website is also a place where you can paricipate and bring your knowledge to others.

THE POWER OF VIDEO
The world is changing and information is power. Therefor the next logical evolution of internet is ONLINE VIDEO. I would like to do a weekly stream covering a topic about what a typical homeowner can do to save money or tackle a project around the house.
What does 'GREEN' mean to you?
To me, it means that in 20 years or less when the world is still depending on fossil fuels, you and I will be in a position that we are not scurrying around with a cardboard sign of a prophesy of the end of days scribbled on it.
We will have prepared ourselves for the inevitable and possibly even staved off its onslaught. Every light bulb we change to LED. Every degree we lower our thermostat. Every product that we buy that is recycled, buys us one more tick of the clock from extinction.
It ain't easy being green! Nothing could be further from the truth.
